Chanel (1912 )Gabrielle Bonheur Chanel a.k.a Coco Chanel
From her first millinery shop, opened in 1912, to the 1920s, Gabrielle ‘Coco’ Chanel rose to become one of the premier fashion designers in Paris, France. Prada (1913) Miuccia Prada
The history of Prada originates back to 1913, when a leather goods company named Fratelli Prada was set up by Mario Prada. Fratelli Prada means “Prada Brothers” in Italian. Just like the Prada of today, Fratelli Prada sold shoes, luggage and handbags made from high quality leather. Mario Prada’s genuine experience from Europe as well as the U.S. made it possible for him to successfully run two Prada boutiques in Milan. He created the classic Prada suitcase from genuine walrus skin, but as plane travel became more and more popular, the classic Prada bag had to be modified to fit the new time. Walrus skin is strong, but also very heavy and thus unsuitable for those traveling in airplanes. Prada included much lighter bags in their collection, and gained a new reputation for their high quality luggage made from wood, tortoise shells and crystals.
